How to Get Kids Involved in Natural Green Living

How to Get Kids Involved in Natural Green Living
Getting kids involved in natural green living can be difficult. There are several methods that many parents have used to get their children involved in natural green living. Some children latch onto these methods while others may have difficulty or may not understand the natural green living concept very well. Here are a few ideas to get kids involved in natural green living throughout the year and keep them involved.

Homemade Bird Feeders

For younger children who enjoy nature, one of the greatest ways to get kids involved in natural green living is to have them create homemade bird feeders. Using a pinecone, peanut butter and birdseed you can create a hummingbird feeder that children can do with just supervision. The best way to create this is to take creamy peanut butter, though chunky peanut butter is fine, and place peanut butter on each leaf of the pinecone. After you have placed the peanut butter on each leaf of the pinecone you can then sprinkle birdseed on the pinecone and place the birdfeeder either by hanging them in a tree or by placing them in the tree. This is natural, will not harm the animal and will give the animal a treat while your children can participate and get involved in natural green living.

Gardening

Indoor and patio gardens are a key element for many natural green households and homeowners. However, it can be a bit difficult to get kids involved in natural green living through gardening. Luckily, there are some companies who have started making kid themed gardening kits they can start indoors with only water. These kits are labeled as pizza kits, salad kits and Taco kits. What these kits contain are the herbs and vegetable items needed to create pizzas, salads and tacos. Children do not only have the ability to get involved in natural green living through growing these items they can also go online and register these kits to allow them the ability to check in online like a game. This keeps children involved, active and allows them to get involved in the gardening process. As the plants grow they can be transferred outside or into planters and eventually be used to create the food items that the kits are labeled for.

Natural Food Finding

A great way to get kids involved in natural green living is to involve them in natural food finding or foraging. If you have a local national park or similar sanctuary, you can take your children out for high and teach them about the herbs, plants and natural fruits and vegetables that occur in nature. You can have your children help you find things for a salad that night or items that can be used in another dinner item. This helps children not only recognize plants that they can eat but it lets them know how to begin to provide food for themselves should there be an issue with finding organic food at the store or other catastrophic issue.
