Environmental Donations Amount To $10 Million From Black Friday Sales

[AMAZING]

Environmental Donations Amount To $10 Million From Black Friday Sales
Prior to American Thanksgiving, Patagonia announced that 100% of their Black Friday sales worldwide would be donated to grassroots environmental groups. They estimated their sales to be around $2 million, but to their surprise the company made $10 million. And now the money will be donated for the betterment of the environment.

Support for the Environmental Cause
The idea for the Black Friday donations was sparked after the recent U.S. presidential election. According to Patagonia spokeswoman, Corley Kenna, the company was looking for a way to showcase the importance of the environment and climate change. She said that “[the company] felt that these were issues that united us and I think this is a demonstration that people agree. Our customers agree.” After Donald Trump’s remarks that climate change is nothing but a “hoax” by the Chinese, the overwhelming support given to Patagonia and environmental organizations is considered a success.

Patagonia received more support for their Black Friday initiative than they imagined. As a response to their $10 million in sales, the company wrote, “[t]he enormous love our customers showed to the planet on Black Friday enables us to give every penny to hundreds of grassroots environmental organizations working around the world.” The company’s Black Friday sales will help protect the Earth’s air, water, and soil for generations to come.

A Message from Patagonia

“The science is telling us loud and clear: We have a problem. By getting active in communities, we can raise our voices to defend policies and regulations that will protect wild places and wildlife, reduce carbon emissions, build a modern energy economy based on investment in renewables, and, most crucially, ensure the United States remains fully committed to the vital goals set forth in the Paris Agreement on climate change.”

During this time of division and difficulty in the United States, it’s important that environmental issues are brought to the political agenda. It’s up to citizens, organizations, and companies like Patagonia to take action and stand up for the environment. We must push for environmental policies and show political leaders that the Earth’s wildlife and natural resources are worth protecting, and that climate change is an issue we must deal with.

Not only is it important to push for changes on a political level, but also to make changes on an individual level. It’s important to look at our own lives to see where we can reduce our ecological footprints. To help the environment we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, minimize our waste, tread lightly on the land, support sustainable industries (eg. agriculture and fishing), and by using our purchasing power wisely.

Patagonia is an example of a retailer that encourages its customers to buy fewer goods to help reduce the amount of waste created by the fashion industry. Environmental values are the guiding light to the company’s policies and practices. Patagonia is a company that looks beyond profit and instead helps people and the environment.
