Fiona the Baby Hippo Explores Her Outdoor Habitat
[ADORABLE]
Fiona is an adorable four-month-old hippo who lives at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. She became famous because of her premature birth and perseverance to survive. In the video you’ll see Fiona’s life support team supervising her throughout her outdoor session in the Hippo Cove pool. She has gotten used to the 6.5 foot depth of indoor pools, but now zoo employees are bringing her to the deeper outdoor pool after the zoo’s visiting hours. Some members are even dressed in full SCUBA gear to watch her go down to the 9 feet depth of the Hippo Cove pool. With some failed attempts to reach the water’s surface, they’ve found that she deliberately sinks herself to the bottom to launch herself back up again.
Employees of the zoo also watch Fiona from the looking glass to help her get used to the smells, sounds and sights of humans. Fiona’s support team will continue to bring her to the outdoor pool in the evenings for more deep water stimulation. They will gradually increase her time outside to prepare for regular visiting hours.
