How to Create Pre-Prepared Natural Meals for Babies
Creating pre-prepared natural meals for babies can be difficult. Many parents choose the option of trying to find organic baby food at the store. This may not work for some budget minded eco-friendly parents as organic food can be double if not triple the cost of its nonorganic counterparts. Here are a few ways you can create pre-prepared natural meals for babies at home with no additional costs and only a few hours a week.
Steaming
One of the best ways to create pre-prepared natural meals for babies is to steam vegetables while you are cooking dinner. If you are already having vegetables for dinner, which most green households do, you can go ahead and steam your baby vegetables separately. Once they are steamed you can run them through a baby food grinder or food processor and place them into jars. These jars can be purchased online, and in most supermarkets or from for stores or other parents. You can put the steamed and ground vegetables into the jars mixed with breast milk, formula or water and have them last for up to a week. This takes no additional time since you are already cooking dinner anyway and is very little effort.
Full Meal Preparation Days
Another common way to create pre-prepared natural meals for babies is to set aside one day a week as a full meal preparation day. This is the day that you would take all of the food you plan on cooking for your baby and lay it out in a full set up. You would steam all of the vegetables, cook all the meat, and boil or steam any fruits or other vegetables needed. You would then place the food into a food processor and grind food in bulk. This will allow you to make bulk carrots, bulk peas, bulk fruits, and bulk meat items. You can then place them into jars separately and separate them according to meals for the week. The food can last up to a week and you can simply grab the food as you need it.
Freezing Baby Food
Freezing baby food is another option of creating a pre-prepared natural meal for babies. You can do this by utilizing the steps discussed in the steaming section of this article or in the full meal preparation day section of this article. The only additional step would be to take the baby food and instead of putting in jars you can cook for a long-term preprepared option. The long-term option to last 3 to 6 months in the freezer. All you'll need to do is place the steamed and prepared food into small silicone ice trays and cover those ice trays. Label each ice tray with the type of food that is in them. When you get ready to use the food pop out that amount from the ice trays and place into jars to thaw.
