[AMAZING]

This is a gnarly looking stick insect known as a Black Beauty. These stick Insects live in a remote 12 acre area in the mountains of Peru and were only discovered in 2005. The insect looks like a cross between a locust and a scorpion. It has a similar face and body of a locust however, its body curves upward toward the back similar to a scorpion's stinger.

This insect is usually most active at night during which its velvet black body keeps it camouflage in the darkness of the night while its tiny a fluorescent red wings can act as a warning to other predators. When threaten, these insects can spray an irritant and strong smelling substance from behind its head as a defense mechanism. Because of its striking features, the black stick insect has become a popular insect in the pet trade however, with the efforts of environmentalist and captive breeding their numbers are back on the rise.
