The 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has bestowed Best in Show upon a German Shepherd named Rumor. The award marks the second time in the prestigious dog show’s extensive history that a breed from the herding group has won Best in Show, the first being the 1987 winner named Manhattan, another German Shepherd.
This wasn’t Rumor’s first time at Westminster. In fact, he won the herding category in Westminster 2016 but Best in Show was ultimately awarded to a German shorthaired pointer in the end. This year though, Rumor beat out more than 2,800 other dogs for the dog show’s blue ribbon prize.
Rumor’s owner, breeder, and handler Kent Boyles says he’s been in love with the breed ever since he was a child and plans on giving Rumor a well-earned retirement from shows when they return home to Wisconsin.
