The New Zoo & Adventure Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin is home to a baby armadillo named Rollie. Rollie is a southern three-banded armadillo that’s known for his playful nature. Like human children, Rollie likes to play with toys, and his favorite seems to be a little pink rubber teddy bear.
In the video you’ll see Rollie playfully pouncing on the rubber teddy bear and rolling around. He does this several times, circling around before each pounce. Prior to pouncing, Rollie seems to be sneaking up on his favorite toy. Once he grabs hold of the toy, he brings it in close and rolls into ball, as if giving the teddy bear a playful hug. The video was filmed by an intern of the New Zoo & Adventure Park.
According to Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, southern three-banded armadillos are the only armadillo species that can curl into a complete ball. As adults they weight about 3 pounds/1.5 kilograms and grow up to 12 inches/20 centimeters in length with tails that are 2.5 inches/6 centimeters long. Their native habitat is in South America, in countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
