A Musically-Gifted Chicken Plays ‘America the Beautiful’ on the Keyboard

[FUNNY]

Jokgu the chicken is a Buff Brahma Bantam who lives in Germantown, Maryland. Jokgu’s owner, Shannon Myers, successfully trained her to play ‘America the Beautiful’ on the keyboard. Prior to training Jokgu, Myers noticed that many of her chickens would randomly peck and pluck instruments, so she decided to experiment with clicker training.

With clicker training, Myers would click when the behavior was completed and then give a reward. Over time Jokgu associated the clicking with reward, and she quickly learned how to play the song. Myers said it took only 10 minutes to get Jokgu to click the keys, and in two weeks time Jokgu was trained well enough to play ‘America the Beautiful’. Who knew that chickens could be so musically talented.
