Animal Lives Saved Because Of...Pokemon ’Go’?

The immense success of the gaming app ‘Pokémon Go’ constantly grows but now there are interesting environmental benefits from the game. Since the game inspires the players to be outside while chasing the virtual creatures, some abandoned real-life animals receive help that way.

That is exactly what happened when Sara Perez and Matthew Teague went to a park in Houston, Texas.  They were hoping to find some Pokémons but instead they saw something much more real and precious. Their finding really surprised them and turned them back to reality.

They were playing and trying to find Pokemon at a park in South Houston on Tuesday when they suddenly found a cage with 20 hamsters and seven newborn mice. They were obviously abandoned in that strong heat outdoors.
Sara Perez explains that she and her friend were quite surprised and confused with the finding. They looked around and then called out to check if anyone would respond. But no one did.

Whoever abandoned the animals obviously did not care about them. The animals’ cage was put inside a box. There was no water left for the animals and just some birdseed.

After they found the animals, Perez and Teague immediately took them to Sara’s home.
Sara says that she does not know why someone would abandon the animals. According to her, whoever did that, probably did not want to take care of them and left them to die.

It Is All Because of the Pokemon

According to Sara, if it was not for ‘Pokemon Go’, she and her friend would never go to that spot and find the animals.
The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) took care for the animals. Perez explained that she would gladly take care for some of them but she could not guarantee safe environment. She has two dogs and a pet snake at her home and obviously loves animals.

The Houston SPCA informed on their Facebook page that they will hold the animals a few days in case their owner appears. Then, all of the animals will be available for adoption.

Luckily, all of the 27 animals found by Sara Perez and Matthew Teague survived. And now they need new homes and loving owners. That is why Perez used the Pokémon Go: Houston community page on Facebook  to ask if anyone would help. As a result, four of those hamsters have been adopted. Perez hopes that the Houston SPCA will help find homes for the other animals.

This is actually not the first time when ‘Pokemon Go’ helped for the saving of abandoned animals. Recently, two other Pokémon Go users found and rescued an injured puppy in Houston. They might have otherwise passed nearby without seeing the animal. But the game inspired them to walk through the park and find it.

So, no matter how strong the criticism to the game is, the application obviously helps the environment in a bizarre way. In the future, more animals might be saved by the followers of this popular game.
