In this video, we see a corgi using its teeth to hold onto the Swiffer as it’s taken along for a ride on the hardwood floor. It’s impossible not to have a smile on your face when you see a cute Pembroke Welsh Corgi “helping” their owner clean the floor!
But only in the past decades have corgis gained popularity as a family pet in the United States. They’re known as intelligent dogs that are happy and loving to their owners, but their origins go farther back than we used to realize.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales. According to Welsh legend, this particular breed of dog sprang from the lairs of fairies and elves. But historians say that the Pembroke Welsh Corgi descended from Vallhunds, Swedish cattle dogs that were brought by Vikings in the 9th and 10th centuries. Others say they descended from dogs brought to Wales in the 12th century by Flemish weavers. The breed’s origins leave us with an air of mystery, but today the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is still bred to be a working dog that herds cattle, sheep, and horses, and now they’re also bred to be one of our favorite family pets.
