Myths of Green DIY Cleaning

Myths of Green DIY Cleaning

While many people have switched to greener, more eco-friendly cleaning products to clean and disinfect their homes, many others haven't attempted it due to a variety of myths. Among then include the higher expense, less quality cleaning and more work required; all of which are untrue. If you have been wondering about the truth behind green DIY cleaning, these myths and facts are going to help you make a more realistic decision.

Higher Expense

One of the biggest myths about DIY green cleaning at home is that it will cost more. While this may be true if you're purchasing fancy 'green' cleaning products from your local grocery store, it doesn't have to be. There are a wide range of cleaning products you can make right at home, many of which use ingredients you already have in your cupboard. Not only are they less expensive than any cleaning product you buy in stores, but they're easy to make and all-natural. Look for cleaning products to make with ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, borax and essential oils for a nice scent.

Less Efficient Cleaning

Next is the myth that green products you use at home won't clean as well as the chemical-ridden ones. Again, this is another common myth that you can easily test out for yourself. Chemicals can be known as a temporary clean; they might make things smell and look shiny, but it won't last long and you need to use a lot of these harsh detergents and cleaning agents to get the job done. However if you use natural cleaning products like baking soda and vinegar, you will notice how clean your home is and that it stays that way for longer.

Longer and Harder Work

This myth is two-fold; people believe that it takes longer making cleaning products and that since these products don't contain powerful chemicals, it will take longer to get a good clean. It's true it will take you a little longer to make your own natural cleaning products, but in some cases it won't. You can use diluted vinegar as an all-purpose cleaner and baking soda mixed with water for a carpet stain remover. This involves no time at all to mix and dilute and you don't need to use any chemicals on the same carpet your children and pets play on.

If you have ever used a truly green cleaning product at home, whether purchased at the store or one you made yourself, you would already know how untrue these myths are. Going eco-friendly and being a greener family is very easy to do simply by throwing out all those chemicals and nasty cleaning products and replacing them with natural cleaning agents.

Considerations of do it yourself green cleaning should be taken into account. There are several factors that may make these types of do it yourself projects unappealing in the long run. In addition to the reasons listed here, there are financial reasons and storage issues as well. Consider all your options before starting a do it yourself green cleaning plan in your home and consider the new products currently on the market.
