Police Sgt. On Fawn-Napper: "There Are Stupid People Out There, But This One..."

[UNBELIEVABLE]

Police Sgt. On Fawn-Napper: "There Are Stupid People Out There, But This One..."
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) arrested a woman who intentionally took 4 fawns from the wild in Montcalm County.  Then, she made pictures of them in her home and posted them on Facebook. The woman was criminally charged for her act by the Michigan DNR.

The lady wanted to turn the wild babies into pets, explained Sgt. Ron Kimmerly. The officers from DNR received a tip that the animals were taken from the woods and talked to the lady. But the woman lied to them.
According to Kimmerly the woman’s act was absolutely stupid.  Taking a wild animal as a pet is definitely not a clever idea but taking four of them just makes no sense.

One of the fawns was in a pretty bad condition and died immediately after the officers took the animals.
Were They Really Abandoned?

This absurd story began on May 18. Then, the woman called the DNR. She talked to Conservation Officer Josh Russell and explained him that she had found and taken a fawn, abandoned by the mom.  This is a common mistake. Each spring, some people see fawns left alone for hours and think they were abandoned by the mothers. But usually that is not true,  according to DNR.  This is just a method to avoid predators. The fawns actually have no scent. That is why the mothers tend to stay away from them in order not to attract predators to the little ones because of their own smell.

The officer responded to the lady that she had to put the baby back where she found it and to call again if the fawn is still alone after a few days. But the woman did not call back. A little after that, the DNR officer received a signal that the woman posted pictures of a fawn on Facebook  from what it seemed to be her home.

The officer tracked the lady down but she lied to him about the fawn. It now appears that she gave it to a family friend.
Unfortunately, that was not the end of the story. A week after that, the woman took triplet fawns. This time, Officer Russell got enough evidence for her crime and a confession. The woman got 4 misdemeanor tickets - 1 for each fawn. Each of them could bring her a possible fine of between $200 to $1,000.

The prosecutor who was in charge made a single count which lead to a total fine of $575 fine. The woman did not seem regretful at all and made some vulgar threats to the officers from DNR.

One of the fawns was immediately released into the woods where the woman found it. Since no one saw it again, Kimmerly hopes that it found its mother.

The other three babies were taken by the officers to a wildlife rehabilitation expert. Unfortunately, one of them was too weak and died on the way. The other two fawns will be rehabbed and later released in the wild.
