Georgetown University is a top rated private university of higher education and research. Located in Washington, DC, the university was originally founded in 1789 by Bishop John Carroll, and is one of the oldest and largest Catholic and Jesuit education institutions in the nation. The current campus has 54 different building spread across 104 acres of land. John J. DeGioia is the 48th president of the university and serves as the head of campus today. The university has an acceptance rate of 16.4 percent, and consider itself to be a highly competitive school. Currently, there are about 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled within the university. Along with the main campus located in Washington, DC, there are four other areas in which students can take courses including the Medical Center and Law Center off the main campus, and Georgetown University of Northern Virginia, as well as the university’s School of Foreign Service located in Doha, Qatar. Georgetown was even ranked as the top university for graduate international affairs study, and fourth for undergraduate studies in international affairs by Foreign Policy Magazine in 2015. The Georgetown University Hoyas sports teams participate in NCAA division I and division I-AA levels of competition. While the school nickname is the Hoyas, the official mascot of the school is Jack the Bulldog.
